You’ll go and you’ll like it, dammit

On the way home from our forced family adventure to see the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse, I decided to start a new thing. We were heading back to Columbus, Ohio after 4 days of camping in Kentucky and Tennessee. On the ninth hour of what should have been a seven hour trip, we stopped to grab something to eat. The kids were grumpy, we were exhausted, and we still had three hours to go. We headed into a Wendy’s and sat down to eat, hoping the insane amount of traffic would die down. To lighten the mood, I told the kids that I was going to start a Facebook page to share our adventures, and that I was going to find a picture of them looking as pissed off as possible to use as the profile picture.

We happen to have an abundance of angry pictures of my oldest son because teenager. So this suggestion seemed to piss him off even further. (You’ll probably notice that I will post far more pictures of my younger son. Now you know why.)

Anyway, I told them that I was going to name the Facebook page Forced Family Adventures, and they got a kick out of the idea. Just like that, the mood lightened, and they started to come up with various ideas for the page of their own.

Our family does a lot of traveling. We enjoy camping, hiking, and going on fast paced trips where we sight see at breakneck speed. The kids typically enjoy our trips, but I’d be lying if I said that they always looked forward to going. There is plenty of complaining, arguing, and “I can’t wait go get home” type of comments. But we continue to drag them around the country, and we hope that one day they’ll appreciate all of the forced family adventures.

  1. What a clever name for your blog;). May I suggest having the kids contribute a blog post from time to time. Love your writing! Love your adventures….
